Description: 12-year-old Dre Parker could've been the most popular kid in Detroit, but his mother's latest career move has landed him in China. Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Ying - and the feeling is mutual - but cultural differences make such a friendship impossible. Even worse, Dre's feelings make an enemy of the class bully, Cheng. In the land of kung fu, Dre knows only a little karate, and Cheng puts "the karate kid" on the floor with ease. With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han, who is secretly a master of kung fu. As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and calm, Dre realizes that facing down the bullies will be the fight of his life.

Great movie! Two thumbs up!!!

PROS: Great visuals of China! Really believable acting. I think Jaden did great and so did the supporting cast. Some will hate but fact is few KIDS could have done this part nearly as well. But when your dad is Will Smith, some will never see beyond that.
CONS: Like the original Karate Kid, this movie's storyline is VERY farfetched! Kung Fu takes years to master. Those kids who trained their whole lives would dominate ANYONE who's been doing it for 2 months. Seriously.

AMAZING FILM !!!! A great remake, regardless of the Kung Fu thing, because the point of the movie has always been focused on overcoming hardship while growing up and not should not be focused on the specificity of the martial art form.

i love this movie

Every body who left a comment here besides me must have gotten a check in the mail from papa Smith to post these so not true comments on this site. This was the worst movie remake of anything that has ever been remade in a long time. I have seen the classic Karate Kid films religiously and let me tell you the truth this movie disgraces Pat Morika and Ralph Machios amazing classic. The chemistry from the classic version with Pat Morika and Ralph Machios was felt threw the movie and into your heart it was a genuine teacher student relationship with a true purpose and meaning. The chemistry with Jackie and Jayden Smith feels so forced like you can tell there acting in front of a bunch of guys pointing cameras in there face. It wasn't SUPPOSED to be a "remake" of the film, as quoted by the filmmakers. It was supposed to be its own version in its own right--branching off into its own universe, so the "differences" that don't follow the legit KK films were all intentional. The only thing that was supposed to be similar was the title and the basic plot devices, but everything else was an alternative universe so it could have its own ground as something completely separate from the old KK. If you go into a movie comparing and contrasting differences and similarities between remakes and their superiors, then you need to adopt a more open mind or stick strictly to original films, because not once have I seen this ever being the point when a remake of any film has been made. Jayden was 11--if you expect him to be John Q in his first film, then you need a reality check.
