A wealthy harridan, Violet Venable (Katharine Hepburn), attempts to bribe Dr. Cukrowicz (Montgomery Clift), a young psycho-surgeon from a New Orleans mental hospital that is desperately in need of funds, into lobotomizing her niece, Catherine Holly (Elizabeth Taylor).
