Leeza works in Dr. Perkins Medical Research Facility in the United States of America. Her parents were originally from India. Her mother was single when she arrived in the U.S.A., and her contact with a male Caucasian made her fall in love as he looked just like a movie star. Her dreams were shattered when this male decided to wed a prettier Caucasian, leaving her to marry Leeza's dad. Now her husband has arranged Leeza's marriage with Arvind, also an American-Indian, the engagement has taken place, and the marriage is soon to be finalized. Then Leeza meets with Danny, a Caucasian who is blind since his premature birth, who has enrolled himself with Dr. Perkins to try out a new procedure that will result in surgery to a part of his brain, to restore his visual cortex, enabling him to partly use his vision albeit in fuzzy black and white images. Although Leeza feels attracted to Danny, who lives a middle-class lifestyle with his mom, dad, brother, Larry (of Lorenzo's Limo) and a younger sister, Marie; is still a virgin; and anxious to meet someone from the opposite sex, she has made a commitment to marry Arvind and feels it would be against her Hindu culture (where love is measured with loyalty, trust, respect, and commitment) to break off her engagement and get involved with Danny - especially when it seems that Danny's may get his vision and get involved with a much more attractive female Caucasian. The movie stars identical twins actors Cole and Dylan Sprouse, who play Justin, a little boy who thinks he sees his mother kissing Santa Claus. However "Santa" is actually Justin's father. Overhearing his parents Stephanie (Connie Sellecca) and David Carver (Corbin Bernsen) having a heated argument, young Justin Carver retreats to his bedroom. A few minutes later, Justin peeks downstairs, only to see his mother Stephanie locked in a warm, romantic embrace with none other than "Santa Claus." Fueled by his best friend's worries over his recently separated parents, Justin jumps to the conclusion that his mother is having an affair with Santa. So, Justin decides to behave as badly as possible in an attempt to prevent Santa coming to his house on Christmas Eve night lest he make off with the boy's mother. Professional mercenary Karl Thomasson, his friend Macy, and an albanian girl are being held in a brutal Kosovo prison where Macy is severely beaten. Just before he dies, Macy gives Karl a medal to give to Macy's daughter Nicole Stewart, who is a professor of english at Eastern Atlantic University on Long Island in New York. Karl and the Albanian girl then escape, and Karl kills their two captors. Three months later, Karl shows up at the university and visits Nicole, who is reluctant to accept Macy's medal because due to his military obligations, Macy was out of Nicole's life more than he was in it. Soon after Karl visits Nicole, she is brutally beaten up. When Karl hears of this, he has his friends Ed Lincoln and Rahmel help him take over as Nicole's substitute under a false name, then Karl brings another mercenary friend named Andy in on the investigation of the beating so Andy can work with Karl, Ed, and Rahmel. Karl believes it was a member of the football team who did it then he discovers that members of the team have been doing steroids. Karl doesn't completely know what's going on until he and his mercenary friends investigate people such as head coach Bill Braden and Tony Lo Russo, the son of local crime boss Vincent "Vinnie The Brick" Lo Russo. Clay (as in the title) is a young man in a small town who witnesses his friend kill himself because of the ongoing affair that Clay was having with the man's wife. Feeling guilty, Clay now resists the widow when she presses him to continue with their sexual affairs. Into this comes a serial killer who befriends Clay, even to murdering the nagging widow for him... but certainly not at Clay's request. But that doesn't matter for the police, as well as for a savvy female FBI agent who sees Clay as their prime suspect. Yet Clay doesn't tell them of his 'friend' who admits to him of his serial killings, primarily because Clay sees himself as somewhat of an accomplice, in that he seems to have introduced to the killer each young woman that is killed... in fact, the sheriff comments that he wishes Clay would quit finding the murdered victims, which he always seems to do. Two "angels" who are in charge of human relationships on earth, offer some unsolicited help to bring this unlikely couple together. "Just Like Dad" is one of those movies that was not made for the purpose of being the next "Gone With the Wind", but rather it was made to provide its audience with a decent, entertaining story, and it does a pretty good job of that. In the film: a twelve-year-old kid who is ashamed of his wimpy father(Wallace Shawn), meets and befriends a kindly man who happens to be somewhat handsome and very athletic, and somehow he convinces this man to pretend to be his father at a school picnic. After this works quite well, the boy's scheme deepens, and of course he runs into some trouble along the way and this makes him learn that there is nobody he would rather be like than his dad. It's a simple story, that has some entertaining comedic moments on the side, such as the boys "stand-in" father out-smarting some bullies. It also features tender performances by Shawn, director Nick Cassavettes, as the "stand-in" father, Ben Diskin(?)as the boy, and Jarrett Lennon as his friend. An odd sub-plot involving computers somewhat lessons the story, and a few of the scenes between Shawn and Diskin are a little bit too melodramatic, but all in all, it's not a bad movie.
