This is the story of Sister Luke, from the time she enters the convent until she chooses to leave the Sisterhood. She comes from a well off family and her father is a prominent surgeon. Having returned to the motherhouse, she has difficulty accepting the neutrality of her order as the Second World War rages and chooses to leave the Order permanently.
